Heads up reality TV fans, American innovative talent singing competition is back!
Featuring Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Blake Sheldon and Maroon 5's front man Adam Levine as vocal coaches, The Voice returns for a second season.
Speaking to Yahoo! Singapore over the phone in Las Vegas, season 1 winner Javier Colon tells us more about himself, the show that changed his life and post-competition plans.
Blissfully married with two kids, the 33-year old American R&B and acoustic soul singer has collaborated with British pop singer Natasha Bedingfield for his debut single, 'As long as we got love'. He also revealed how his own kids actually didn't want him to win the competition in the interview.
Q: Who convinced you to join the competition?
Javier: It was actually my brother! He told me that I have to try everything. It was a good opportunity and I've got nothing to lose.
Q: Why audition for The Voice among the other singing competitions?
Javier: The Voice came at the right time for once. I was not eligible for American Idol because I was too old. X Factor happened after I was on The Voice.

Q: Your mentor was Adam Levine. How was it like working with him?
Javier: Adam is awesome. He is a great coach and now, a great friend. I still ask him for advice and it is great to have him as he is resourceful.
Q: During your audition, you were one of the few contestants to have all four judges pressing the button for you to go through to the next round. Why did you choose Adam?
Javier: It was my gut decision. I loved Adam's music and was leaning towards him as my coach. In a way, I was hoping he would [press the button] after my performance. Blake would have been a great choice as well. In fact, all of them would have been a great choice.
Q: The format of the show is different from the other reality singing contests on TV. How do you feel about that?
Javier: It was great and people are intrigued because they can only hear and not see the singers. It is sort of like a level-playing field. Everybody has a chance to be heard and not be judged by how they look like.
Q: How has winning the competition changed your life?
Javier: My previous albums were pretty obscure and not many people know about them. I wasn't able to make a living out of it and I lost my record deal. After winning the show, I am able to make a living out of singing.
Q: What did you do with the US$100,000 prize money?
Javier: A lot of it went right into the bank to pay some bills. Another chunk of it was spent in Disneyworld Florida.
Q: Is it true that your kids wanted Vicci to win over you?
Javier: (Laughs) Yeah. They were big Vicci fans especially my daughter. Vicky is an amazing artiste. She is awesome. I couldn't be afraid of my kids loving her. My kids (aged 2 and 3) were happy that I won but they were sad that Vicci lost at the same time.
Q: We heard it through the grapevine that you started songwriting at an early age to woo a girl. What have you got to say to that?
Javier: (Laughs) Yeah, I wrote a song to ask a girl out and it worked. It lasted for about three to four months though.
Q: Did you use the same technique to win your wife over?
Javier: Yeah, it was similar. I didn't write a song but I sang for her.
Q: What are your upcoming plans?
Javier: Start touring in the US. But I am hoping to get to South East Asia sometime to do some promotion and performances. I have gotten a lot of support from my fans in SEA and I want to be there to thank them. Also, I am looking forward to be invited as a guest performer in Season 2 of The Voice.
The Voice premieres on Feb 6 at 10pm on AXN.
