David Beckham insists he has never been interested in “money or fame”.
Although he is used to living in the public spotlight, the 37-year-old soccer star doesn’t crave celebrity status. David claims he can be “shy” and doesn’t enjoy talking about himself.
“I never thought about the money, the fame - it never interested me and it doesn't interest me now. None of that has ever excited me,” he told the latest UK edition of Elle. “How would I sum myself up? I don't know, I prefer other people to do that. Erm, a little bit shy. I don't know what to say, I hate describing myself.”
David and his wife Victoria are one of the biggest celebrity couples in the world.
While some people can be lazy when it comes to romance, David ensures he enjoys quality time with the singer-turned-designer. He has revealed they love sharing details about their careers, although he claims Victoria’s work tales are usually more interesting.
“She comes home and shows me what she's been doing all day and what exciting dresses and bags she's got coming through. And then I say something boring like, ‘I got kicked today,’” he laughed. “But we listen to each other. We try to go out at least once a week, just the two of us, a quiet dinner somewhere.
“It's not about wearing a nice dress or a nice suit. It's just going out and chatting and having some time together.”
David shows off his finely honed physique in the accompanying photoshoot for Elle. He says he feels “honoured” to be the publication’s first solo male cover star.
