Girl Groups like SNSD Exist in North Korea?

North Korea is usually known as a country of famine and war, but it was recently revealed that groups similar to Girls’ Generation (SNSD) actually exist in the country.

For July 8’s broadcast of Channel A’s We’re Coming to Meet You, some North Korean refugees appeared on the show and talked about how groups like SNSD exist in North Korea.

While it is not like the girl groups we see in South Korea, the North Korea′s Wang Je San Light Music Band consists of talented musicians chosen exclusively for Kim Jong Il.




It is uncertain how many people are active, but every participant is very beautiful, wears elaborate outfits and they all dance in perfect synchronization, reminiscent of South Korea’s idol girl groups.

To become a part of Kim Jong Il’s entertainment group, the women must go through auditions and fulfill certain requirements such as social status, height, talent, and other features.

Unlike South Korean girl groups, once someone enters this exclusive dance group, she is most likely unable to ever leave as it can expose secrets about North Korea’s leader.

It was also revealed that there are groups of women who cheer on North Korean soldiers through music and performance, just as South Korean girl idol groups do when they visit army bases.

In related news, Kim Jong Eun, the current leader of North Korea, is rumored to have a member of the Wang Je San Light Music Band as his wife.

We’re Coming to Meet You is a program where female North Korean refugees appear and talk about the similarities and differences between the North and South.
