Mehdi Hassan passes away

20 Jun – Indian born Ghazal singer Medhi Hassan has died in a hospital last week after a long deterioration of his health brought an end to his life.

According to Masala, Medhi was warded at the Agha Khan private hospital in Karachi and was kept on life support. However, his condition continued to worsen and he died from multiple organ failures at the age of 86.

Hassan's son, Arif, one of Medhi's nine sons and five daughters, said that Medhi's health had been deteriorating for the past 12 years and started becoming very serious a month before his death.

Medhi was born in Rajasthan, India in 1927, but his family moved to Pakistan after 1947 where he became well known as a Ghazal singer. Among his best songs were the super hit "Patta, patta, boota, boota" from "Ek Nazar" and "Kab Ke Bichhare", which made him a major contributor to the film scene of his time.
