With the last year’s craze for fashion forward nails, beauty companies have really become creative when it comes to artsy nail products.
With marketing as well as technical departments making an effort to create consumer-friendly polishes and gadgets, now we can all have salon-worthy nails at a fraction of the salon price.
Here are some of the new at-home products.
Nail wraps
Modelled on the celebrity favourite nail wrap brand Minx, many companies have come up with their own version of the popular foils. While the original salon wrap is adhered to the nail with heat, the at-home version is a simpler stick-on. It won’t stay for long, but is good fun for a night on the town. Ask a friend to help with the application for best results.
Smart gels
Gel-polishes have been big business at beauty parlours for the past year and this spring Orly created an easy-to-use consumer’s version. After applying the product, a LED light hardens the material and make sure your new nails will stay on for a week or two. Unfortunately it only comes in 12 shades.
Caviar Nails
Your nail therapist has the skill and the tools to add little pearls to your nail polish before it dries, creating a structured and beautiful surface. And now you can do it by yourself at home, as Ciaté has created the Caviar Manicure, a duo of coloured nail polish and a bottle of ‘caviar pearls.’
Graffiti nails
Nail varnish brands such as OPI has had it for over a year now, but now luxe brand Dior has created one of the most beautiful cracked-polish effects with its Crocodile Leather Effect Nails. Fall 2012 collection Golden Jungle will be in store in August.
