Roo Panes: Redmayne takeover was scary

Roo Panes found taking over from Burberry face Eddie Redmayne “intimidating”.

The musician is starring in the label’s Autumn/Winter 2012-13 campaign and admitted he felt somewhat nervous about replacing the actor as the iconic fashion house’s poster boy.

Judging by the stunning black and white photographs - which show him cosying up to actress Gabriella Wilde amidst a moody historical night-time setting - handsome Panes didn’t need to worry.

"It was intimidating if I thought about whose shoes I was stepping into," he told British Vogue. "I definitely thought: 'Wow this is a big deal', but I tried not to focus on it."

Roo landed the coveted modelling job when he approached the brand about promoting his music in one of their Burberry Acoustic films, a collaboration between Christopher Bailey and up-and-coming British musicians.

The guitarist admitted that he didn’t know much about fashion when he was selected to star in the campaign.

"Burberry has really good taste in music - I really liked Johnny Flynn, who the brand was really promoting at the time. It was a really nice video and the exposure he was getting was great. As an emerging musician wanting to make it, I thought: 'This could be a good idea.' I don't think I really knew what I was getting into. It wasn't that I was ever disinterested in fashion - I just didn't have an in-depth knowledge. Hopefully, I've learnt more now,” he laughed.
