15 Oct – Canto-pop singer Shirley Kwan surprised everyone when it was reported that she was involved in a spat with a foreigner. As reported on Groove Asia website, the 46-year-old singer was spotted having a row with a foreign man before she called the police and reported that the man had attacked her.
The police arrived and took both into custody before Kwan was seen leaving the police station in Lantau Island at 2am. According to an official, the incident happened at around 10pm when Kwan witnessed a 42-year-old foreign male, (known as Michael) and a Chinese man by the surname of Lee (49) getting into a dispute after the foreigner had cut a queue.
The singer was allegedly pushed by the male foreigner while trying to stop the fight, prompting her to call the police. The attacker was arrested not long after and Kwan sustained no injuries.
Kwan told the media, "If I encounter a similar situation again, I will definitely do the same. Hong Kong is a civilized society, it is a virtue to abide by the rules and stand in line. He should respect that."
