“A garden is for everybody, so the dining destination within a garden has to cater to everyone too,” says Mr Vincent Tan, Managing Director of Select Group.

Which is why at Gardens By The Bay’s Supertree Dining, you can find five very different dining concepts that will satisfy a diverse group of visitors (anyone from the tourist to the senior citizen) who are going to visit this new attraction.

Children and teens can have their treats at Texas Chicken (the only fast food chain in the garden); retirees can yum cha (drink tea and have dim sum) and try the famous Steamed Xiao Long Bao in Double-boiled Shark’s Bone Cartilage Soup ($12.80) at Peach Garden; tourists who want to try local street food can go to Hill Street Coffee Shop for HokkienMee, Laksa and Nasi Lemak; for others who prefer pastries and baked macaroni, Select Group have partnered with the Les Amis Group to bring on board Casa Verde (Italian fare) and Canele Patisserie (pastries and macarons).

Following the current F&B trend of retro themes, Hill Street Coffee Shop pays homage to the food of a bygone era where the place was known to have good chow (remember the old Polar Café and the famous stalls at the nearby Hock Lam Street?). To set the right tone, they plaster old images of the now defunct Hill Street Police Station as well as the Central Fire Station on the walls, with kopitiam tables and slide-in booth seats with the usual predictable decorative knick knacks like old Nonya Tiffin carriers, stone mortar and pestles and old street lamps.

While the design statement says “retro”, the kitchen behind is modern and fast. They have an automated wok to fry your hor fun, mee goreng and Hokkien mee and Mr Tan assures that it tastes as good as it should be.

“We did a taste test within the company and we couldn’t tell the difference,” he proclaims.

Something else also worth noting is that Texas Chicken claims to use only fresh chicken from Malaysia. “The chickens are slaughtered in Singapore, marinated for 12 hours and then sent to our various outlets,” says Mr Tan. Makansutra tasted the chickens and we can confirm this claim.

How do you tell, you may ask? Hint: see picture below.
