World Gourmet Summit 2012
Singapore's most prestigious gourmet festival returns this month
Although there’s no shortage of culinary festivals in Singapore, none of these gastronomic gatherings come close to possessing the same level of prestige or history as World Gourmet Summit. Every year we eagerly anticipate the star-studded cast of chefs that grace what is arguably Singapore's most lauded gastronomic event.
Hot off the heels of Savour 2012, the biannual Restaurant Week, as well as Asian Masters and Chefs with Altitude, comes the 16th edition of the highly acclaimed festival, which is set to run from 23 April to 3 May 2012 with the theme "A Heritage of Flavours". As such, expect the festival's participating international chefs to present not just contemporary cuisine, but also traditional recipes with a modern twist.
"In this way, the World Gourmet Summit provides an authentic platform for cultural and culinary exchange between the festival’s participating chefs and the Singapore public," says Peter A Knipp, the organizer of World Gourmet Series.
Citibank Gastronomic Jam Sessions
A new addition to World Gourmet Summit 2012 is the Citibank Gastronomic Jam Sessions, which will feature demonstrations of culinary techniques and trends by visiting masterchefs such as Marco Pierre White and Pedro Miguel, as well as local talents like Janice Wong and Ryan Clift.
Culinary Dinners by an International Star-Studded Ensemble
The World Gourmet Summit always attracts some of the world's most celebrated chefs, and this year, British culinary luminary Marco Pierre White will headline, presenting his cuisine at the Marco Pierre White Celebrity Chef Dinner at Grand Hyatt Singapore.
For a taste of the unusual, Russian chef Anatoly Komm, who's known for revitalizing Russian cuisine, will present a six-course menu of traditional Russian cuisine with a twist, using the latest molecular techniques, paired with wines from Indoguna, Russian sparkling wine and vodka. Rising star, Danish chef Ronny Emborg will also show off his culinary finesse in molecular and nouvelle cuisines at a special themed dinner.
Wine Master Classes
No gourmet dinner is complete unless accompanied by the finest of vintages, and the World Gourmet Summit 2012 will present exquisite vintages from the wineries like Champagne Penet-Chardonnet (Champagne, France), Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné (Rhone, France) and Penfolds (Magill, South Australia) in a series of wine master classes and vintner dinners conducted by international winemakers and local and master chefs respectively.
