31 May – Previously, Paramount decided to push the release date of "G.I Joe: Retaliation" by nine months to 29 March 2013 with the reason that it wanted to post-convert the franchise sequel into 3D, but that may not entirely be the case.

According to Deadline, it has been revealed that Paramount's awkward decision to delay what would have been a summer blockbuster may have been due to the breakout success by one of its supporting characters played by Channing Tatum, who was been meeting with a breakthrough for his performance in "The Vow" and "21 Jump Street".

Although having the uprising star in your cast should be a boon to the movie's profile in most cases, insiders have revealed that the movie did not receive very good points from test audiences when Channing's character [SPOILER ALERT]; a minor supporting role, was killed off very early on in the movie.

This has made a nervous Paramount reconsider releasing the movie without a rework, and they are said to be planning a re-shoot of some of the scenes with Channing to expand further on his relationship and history with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's character, which looks like a more plausible explanation to justify the nine-month delay.

Since the announcement of the delay, many of the cast and crew were none too pleased with it. Director Jon Chu, for one, said that he was 'shellshocked' by the decision and Dwayne himself was forced to calm down fans when the movie suffered a backlash for the delay.
