Jean-Claude Van Damme's father wanted him to have a "safe" career.

The Hollywood action hero has revealed his parents hoped he would pursue a profession that offered security. However, Jean-Claude went against their expectations and became an actor instead.

“My parents thought I would be a police officer, retired at 42,” Jean-Claude told Gala France. “My father was a florist. He wanted something safe for me, something I suited.”

Jean-Claude continued to explain his relationship with his father today.

He is sentimental about his closeness to his dad, who loves him unconditionally. The Expendables actor feels emotional when he thinks about how proud his father is of him, regardless of the profession he chose.

“He adores me. He gave me this watch that was his father’s yesterday, just because he was so moved to see me in The Expendables 2,” Jean-Claude gushed.

“I’ve got a wonderful father. I would give my life for my parents.”
