Mads Mikkelsen, a "Thor 2" villain

5 June – Not to be outdone by fellow Marvel film, "Iron Man 3", the team behind "Thor 2" is also hard at work in fleshing out their current ensemble cast line-up, with Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen being the latest rumoured addition as the new secondary villain for "Thor 2".

According to Total Film, the recent 2012 Cannes Film Festival winner for the Best Actor award is currently in talks to star alongside English actor Tom Hiddleston, who is reprising his role as Loki, as the other key villain in the Marvel superhero sequel.

Who the 47-year-old Danish star will be playing is not yet revealed but he is expected to be on equal footing with Hiddleston's Loki, for according to Marvel president Kevin Feige, the sequel would bring in "another big villain from the Asgardian universe of the Nine Realms".

Prior to his high-profile win at this year's Cannes for his performance in Thomas Vinterberg's "The Hunt", Mikkelsen is notably known for his various villainous roles in Hollywood, namely as Le Chiffre in "Casino Royale", Draco in "Clash of the Titans" and most recently, Rochefort in "The Three Musketeers".

It has also been announced that "Thor 2" has secured a new release date on 8 November 2013. Previously, the film was slated to be released on 15 November 2013.

"Game of Thrones" director Alan Taylor is set to direct "Thor 2" while original cast members Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins and Idris Elba will return to their roles as Thor, Jane Foster, Odin and Heimdall, respectively.
