Matthew McConaughey says exercise helps clear his mind.

The Hollywood star is renowned for his love of the outdoors, and is regularly seen surfing, hiking and hitting the gym. Matthew enjoys working up a sweat, as it provides a release from the stresses of his career.

"That's true [that he works out], but not because I'm vain. I like being fit,” he told German newspaper Frankfurter Rundschau. “When I do sport I feel better, my head is clearer and I am nicer towards the people around me. Sweating just does me good!"

Matthew recently tied the knot with model Camila Alves, who is currently expecting the couple’s third child.

Matthew decided to focus on family life a few years ago, after becoming frustrated with the lack of challenging roles.

The 42-year-old had developed a reputation for appearing in romantic comedies, but was eager to test himself.

"I wanted more time with the family and decided to go for a lower profile,” he explained. “I also dared to reject offers. It's not that easy to say no if there isn't already something else on offer. I wanted to wait for parts that really interested me."
