SNH48 announced as AKB48's new sister group

25 Apr – AKB48 producer Akimoto Yasushi has announced that he will be forming a new sister group of AKB48 that will be based in Shanghai, China.

According to Tokyo Hive, the announcement was made on its official website and the group is named SHN48. This is AKB48's third overseas group, following TPE48 (based in Taipei, Taiwan) and JKT48 (based in Jakarta, Indonesia).

Yasushi is expected to be the supervisor of the new group and a nationwide audition is rumoured to be held in August of this year.

It is the hope that the first 16 members of its first team, Team S, could be unveiled by December 8, which falls on the 7th anniversary of the formation of AKB48.
