23 Sep – Escalating tensions between China and Japan over the claim of the Diaoyu Island has forced Tony Leung to put his appearance in the Japanese move "1905" on hold indefinitely, according to Groove Asia.

Since the announcement of Tony's involvement in the Japanese movie by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Chinese netizen have been angrily calling Tony a traitor for appearing in the Japanese production while anti-Japanese sentiments have reached a fever pitch with a protest against the Japanese embassy in Beijing recently.

As a result, Tony Leung's wife Carina Lau has revealed that her husband's participation in the period-drama has been put on hold, perhaps indefinitely.

"I think it will be postponed indefinitely," she said to reporters during a banquet to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Emperor Group in Hong Kong that was attended by big-name celebrities, politicians and businessmen recently.

Carina also clarified that Tony's decision to join the cast of "1905", which will include Japanese actor Shota Matsuda and former AKB48 member Maeda Atsuko, was probably a matter of ill-timing due to the recent tensions between both countries, as the film had been planned since 2009.

Carina also said that she and her husband were aware of the netizens anger over his involvement in the film but did not think it was necessary for him to apologise as a traitor.

"I hope people will view the issue more rationally," she said.

Meanwhile, Tony's management company Jet Tone has issued a statement stating that Tony has yet to see the script of "1905" and has not officially signed on to be in the project.
